Now offering Non-Resident & Resident Moose Hunts! |

Moose Hunting |
After trying for many years we have finally re-obtained moose
tags for non-resident hunters. Keeping with The Bears Den tradition we will be
running our moose hunts “BOW HUNTERS ONLY” The moose archery season starts mid-late
September and we will run the first three weeks of archery only. The tags
are limited and fill almost a year ahead of time. To maximize success, hunts are typically set up on a two hunters occupancy. Two hunters will receive 1 bull and 1 cow tag. Additional hunters may purchase a bull, cow or calf tag. Party hunting is allowed. These are seven-day hunts, coming in at 10:00 am and hunting that Saturday evening then leaving the following Saturday morning by 8:00 AM Moose hunting is not an easy hunt. It involves a great deal of patience, standing and walking with having both a bull and cow tag you have a better chance of putting meat in the freezer. The more hunters you add to your party the more opportunity you have. This is an excellent time of year to hunt moose. The archery season usually falls during the rut so you have a good chance to call in a big bull. Archery moose is three weeks before gun moose season so you will usually have the woods to yourself. Since we hunt bear within WMU #21A not only can we offer combo bear and moose hunts but also we know the area well and spend the summer and early fall scouting for moose during the bear season. We will be able to assist you in finding a good area to hunt. We do offer guiding services where the guide is with your party for the full 7 days. We will assist you in getting your moose out of the bush, wherever it may fall. We have a game pole, indoor skinning room, walk in freezer, 10 chest freezers, and meat saw at your disposal. There are several ways in which to hunt moose. Most hunting is usually done early morning and late evening so you can spend the mid day grouse hunting, as we have plenty of them around. Decoys are not a bad idea but it can be a nuisance carrying them around. The Bears Den will provide *Lodging: We have heat, indoors plumbing, plenty of hot and cold running water and constant electricity. *Cooking Facilities: There are 2 kitchen facilities in the lodge complete with stove, microwave, refrigerator and utensils. The coffee is always on! *Refrigeration and Freezing Facilities: We have a large choice of freezers to store food as well as the meat and the hide from your bear. *Other Recreation: The lodge has pool tables and furnishings for relaxing in the down time. The lake behind the lodge and the many lakes and rivers in the area are teeming with fish. This area of Ontario is also home to some of the finest grouse hunting available (check season dates). *Treestands: We have loc-on tree stands available if needed or wanted Hunters must provide the following equipment: *Archery Gear: Bows with a minimum weight of 49lbs and 24" draw are required by Ontario law. We prefer 55+ lbs and multiple blade broadheads. Mechanical broadheads are not preferred. All broadheads MUST be sharp! *Hunting Skills: This is truly a bowhunters camp. Practice shooting from an elevated platform and while wearing hunting clothing. Hunters are most successful when they can be motionless for long periods of time and are constantly using their senses. *Camouflage and Clothing: Most treestands are located in pine trees and the foliage during hunts is generally green. Most commercial camo patterns will suffice, but green patterns may be an advantage. Temperatures may be from 20 to 65 degrees fahrenheit and rain and snow is a possibility. Comfortable waterproof boots are a must. A clean set of clothes will make the trip home more pleasant. A Hunter Orange vest and hat are required when traveling to and from your stand. *Food and Drinks: Bring plenty of your favorite food and drinks. Caramat does not have a broad selection of these items, and costs will likely be cheaper from home. Canadian Customs limits the amount of alcohol and tobacco that can be brought across the border. *Transportation: Hunters must provide transportation to and from The Bears Den and transportation to and from the bush. Two and four wheel drive trucks are recommended. You must bring a previous hunting license or hunter safety card from your home state or province in order to obtain an Ontario Hunting License. *Other Recreation Equipment: Hunters may bring boats, motors and fishing equipment for the local lakes and rivers. ATVs are popular for fun and transportation (check season dates). Cards and board games are common indoor activities. *Miscellaneous: Passport, drivers license, or proof of citizenship (check Canadian regulations) are required to travel in Ontario. Plastic bags, coolers, burlap (for hides), and salt are useful for transporting your bear home. Cash in Canadian funds, GOOD flashlights, knives, a first aid kit, toiletries, a |
