The Bears Den Camp #3 is for the bear hunter that would like to enjoy their Black Bear Hunting Adventure to the fullest. You will be camping in a remote wilderness area of Ontario where you can experience Bear hunting like never before.
Rugged views abound at Camp #3.
The Bears Den will provide the following services during your hunt:
Active Baits: Bait sites are baited every other day for at least one month before hunting season opens.
All Bait: We provide all the bait for your hunt. Bait consists of fresh meat and molasses.
Freezer Facilities: We have freezers to store the meat and the hide from your bear.
Camping Area: A wilderness camping location, for your tent or travel trailer, complete with a safe fire pit.
Trash Removal: Our staff will remove all trash.
Bear Hunting Expertise: One of our experienced staff will provide orientation and will be on site every other day.
Bear Tracking: For an additional $150, our trained staff will use our trained tracking dogs to help you locate a bear you shot.
Other Recreation: Dozens of lakes and rivers are within a short drive. They provide fishing opportunities for walleye, pike, perch, lake trout, and brook trout.
Hunters must provide the following equipment:
Camping Gear: Rough it in your tent or enjoy the luxury of your travel trailer. It's your choice!
Food, Drinks, and Cooking Gear: Bring all of your favorite food and drinks from home. Bring all necessary cooking and eating utensils. Local towns do not have a broad selection of these items, and costs will likely be cheaper from home. Canadian customs limits the amount of alcohol and tobacco that can be brought across the border.
Firearms and/or Archery Gear: Firearms should be of a caliber capable of harvesting a bear and must be registered upon entry into Canada. The following CANNOT be used for hunting black bear: rimfire rifles, a shotgun smalller than 20 gauge, and any shotgun loadded with shot smaller than #1 buck shot. Bows must have a minimum weight of 49 lbs and 24" draw length. We prefer 55+ lbs and multiple blade broadheads. Mechanical broadheads are not preferred. All broadheads MUST be sharp!
Hunting Skills: This is truly a hunter's hunting camp. Shooting skills should be honed before the hunt begins. Practice shooting while wearing full hunting clothing to insure that everything is prepared for the shot. Hunters are most successful when they can be motionless for long periods of time and are constantly using all their senses.
Camouflage and Clothing: Most bait sites are located in areas with pine trees and the foliage during bear hunts is generally green. Most commercial camo patterns will suffice, but green patterns may be an advantage. Temperatures may be from 30 to 70 degrees fahrenheit and rain is a possibility. Comfortable waterproof boots are a must. A clean set of clothes will make the trip home more pleasant.
Blaze Orange Hat and Vest: Ontario regulations require hunters to wear a blaze orange hat and vest to and from their stands
Transportation: Hunters must provide transportation to and from The Bears Den, and transportation to and from the bait sites. Two and four wheel drive trucks are recommended.
Hunting License: Camp #2 is a hunting license retailer. You must bring a previous hunting license or a hunter safety card from your home state or province in order to obtain an Ontario hunting license. You can choose to purchase a license before you arrive.
Other Recreation Equipment: Hunters may bring boats, motors and fishing equipment for the local lakes and rivers. ATVs are popoular for fun and transportation (check Ontario regulations). Cards and board games are common indoor activities.
Miscellaneous: Passport, drivers license, or proof of citizenship (check U.S. and Canadian regulations) are required to travel in Ontario. Large plastic food bags (not garbage bags), coolers, burlap (for hides), and salt are useful for transporting your bear home. Cash in Canadian funds, GOOD flashlights, knives, a first aid kit, toiletries, a camera, and a compass or GPS are recommended.
Hunting Equipment: Hunters should bring their own treestands. Bugs can be a problem. Headnets and repellent with DEET is recommended.
Hunters will meet at Hillsport Wilderness Resort (Camp #2) before 3:00 P.M. on the Saturday before their hunt is to start. There, you will meet your Camp #3 Bear Technician, and be taken to their camping area for a day of camp set-up. Hunting begins on Sunday. Hunters must depart by 10:00 A.M. the following Saturday with a clean camping area.
